Full name: Dr.h.c. Alfred Henry Heineken
Born: November 4, 1923, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Died: January 3, 2002, Noordwijk, the Netherlands
Known as: Beer magnate
Personal: Married, one daughter and five grandchildren
Memorable quote: “Don’t do anything silly, because my name is on those bottles.”
Freddy Heineken was one of the richest, most successful and especially, most powerful entrepreneurs the Netherlands has ever known. A distinguished man. Charming and genial, but also a tough-as-nails businessman and power-hungry. At least, that is what those who knew him best say. The top industrialist’s interests were just as diverse: he loved cars, art, music and science. But also dirty jokes. Of course he was best known for the Heineken beer empire, which grew to its current size and became an international success because of him.
