A man of many talents who lived a long and illustrious life, M.R. Kukrit Pramoj was a banker, soldier, journalist, founder of Siam Rath newspaper, writer, traditional Thai dancer, university professor, actor, radio narrator, TV commentator, politician and the 13th Prime Minister of Thailand

Of his literary achievements, his famous works include Lai Cheewit (Many Lives), Pai Dang (Red Bamboo) and Si Pandin (Four Reigns). He also starred in the 1963 film The Ugly American playing one of the leading roles opposite Marlon Brando

M.R. Kukrit was named a “National Artist” for literature in 1985. On 24th October 2009, he was named a World Historic Important Figure by UNESCO in recognition of his contribution to education, culture, society and media
