Muhammad Ali

“I am the greatest!”

Olympic gold medallist and three-time World Heavyweight Champion, Ali was first sculpted by Madame Tussauds in 1964 and due to his popularity has since been reproduced for our attractions across the globe

In 1964 he changed his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali when he converted to Islam. Controversially, he was stripped of his World Heavyweight Champion title in 1967 for refusing military service during the Vietnam war on religious grounds

In 1999, Ali was the UN Messenger of Peace and was named Sportsman of the Century by Sports Illustrated. He was also awarded an Amnesty International Lifetime Achievement Award

Born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. on 17th January 1942 in Kentucky, USA
