HM The Queen arrives
Madame Tussauds Blackpool today launched a Best of British experience in time for the Jubilee weekend with a wax figure of HM The Queen.
The Queen’s figure was launched with 20 schoolchildren who were the first to sample the regal setting and attend a street party inside the leading seaside attraction. The children, aged 6-7 from the Norbreck School got up close and personal with the figure and learnt first hand from the staff about her magnificent 60 years on the throne.
As part of the experience, Madame Tussauds Blackpool is showcasing a collection of three replica gowns and dresses worn by HM The Queen’s previous wax figures to show how she has been styled through her 60-year reign. The figure, which depicts the Queen from her previous Jubilee in 2002 shows her in a snapshot in time during her long reign.
Each dress was worn during key moments in her life such as the Silver Jubilee and her Coronation and represents a fantastic opportunity to learn how fashion has developed during her reign. The dresses have all been lovingly restored and will take up residence next to the Queen’s figure on a series of mannequins.
The room is also home to TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Beatles plus a selection of comedy greats, to reflect the best talent and public figures the country has to offer.
Matthew Titherington, General Manager at Madame Tussauds Blackpool said: “We are honoured to welcome the Queen to Madame Tussauds Blackpool. She is one of the most revered figureheads of our time and her arrival will be the perfect way to kick off our Jubilee celebrations.
“We can’t think of a better way to launch the figure than with local children who will be able to get into the party spirit as we welcome her figure to the town.”
