• Sir David Attenborough is a much-loved and respected broadcaster and the face and voice of British natural history television programmes
• He spent his childhood collecting fossils and specimens, including a piece of amber with prehistoric creatures trapped inside, which many years later inspired his programme The Amber Time Machine
• Attenborough's presenting style has been parodied many times by comedians. In a Monty Python's Flying Circus sketch Michael Palin played Attenborough searching in the jungle for the legendary 'Walking Tree of Dahomey' (Quercus Nicholas Parsonus)
• He wrote and presented nine series of a programme called Life. Together they form a comprehensive exploration of all life on Earth. Other landmark series include Blue Planet and Planet Earth
• David is the younger brother of film director, producer and actor, Richard Attenborough
