- Mexican actress, director and producer Hayek is best known for her work on the film Frida (2002), for which she received several accolades including an Oscar® nomination for Best Actress.

- Hayek also appears in and produces the award winning Ugly Betty television series

- From her award wining performance in Teresa (1989), a successful Mexican telenovela, she left her native Mexico for a movie career in Hollywood.

- Since then she has appeared in several films including Desperado (1995), Fools Rush In (1996), Traffic (2000) and Across the Universe (2007)

- Hayek's charitable work includes increasing awareness of violence against women and discrimination against immigrants

- Born Salma Hayek Jimenez on September 2, 1966 in Veracruz, Mexico
