Madame Tussauds - Hong Kong

Chief Executive's Wax Figure Joins Other World Leaders at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong

(HONG KONG - April 07, 2008) Madame Tussauds Hong Kong received a much anticipated honour today, as Chief Executive Donald Tsang - or rather his incredible wax likeness - became a permanent addition to the attraction, marking the first time that such a high ranking Special Administrative Region leader has graced the "world famous home of the famous".

To help promote tourism in Hong Kong, the Chief Executive has accepted the invitation from Madame Tussauds Hong Kong to create his perfect wax likeness which took almost six months to complete. Mr Tsang is the most requested political figure based on the visitor surveys.

"Madame Tussauds Hong Kong is dedicated to being the most captivating city centre attraction where we feature the most requested celebrities for our guests' enjoyment. It is with great honour and appreciation that we welcome Chief Executive Donald Tsang to Madame Tussauds Hong Kong," said Bret Pidgeon, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai.

As the newest addition to the celebrity-inspired attraction, the Chief Executive’s wax figure is situated in the Historical and National Heroes area, alongside other notable world leaders. His immortalised figure is displayed against a dazzling backdrop of the Hong Kong skyline, filled with festive fireworks. When standing next to the wax figure, guests will be surrounded by the iconic sounds of night time fireworks over spectacular Victoria Harbour.

"Madame Tussauds Hong Kong is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the city. Our mission is to deliver high quality memorable visitor experiences to our guests. With the addition of the Chief Executive's wax likeness at the attraction, Mr Tsang will be able to greet every visitor from around the world here as well as to share the magic of Hong Kong," said Bret.

The Chief Executive's wax figure wears a dark blue suit, along with a matching bow-tie, handkerchief and a pin featuring the "Brand Hong Kong" logo donated from the Chief Executive's personal wardrobe.

The Chief Executive appreciated the team work and professionalism displayed by Madame Tussauds Hong Kong. Although the sitting took two hours, Mr Tsang was full of smiles while hundreds of measurements and photographs were taken. The Chief Executive took special interest when the sculptor was matching his eye colour.

During the unveiling ceremony, Chief Executive Donald Tsang was joined by Mr James Tien, Chairman of the Hong Tourism Board, Mr Frederick Ma, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, and Mr Bret Pidgeon, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai, who were in attendance to also unveil the new Visitor Information Centre and special promotions at the Peak.
