HONG KONG (September 26, 2008) Visitors at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong today could be forgiven for thinking they were seeing double, with the official unveiling of Hollywood heart-throb Johnny Depp's wax likeness running in unison with the final of the attraction's Johnny Depp look-alike competition.
The most requested celebrity in Madame Tussauds Hong Kong exit polls, Johnny Depp's presence has proven to be a popular choice, judging from the interest from locals hoping to be labelled the best look-alike.
Finalists were selected from last week's online entries and today paraded through the Hong Kong Glamour section of the attraction, where the statuesque Johnny Depp was revealed, for final judging by up and coming hot model Angelababy, Renaissance Kowloon Hotel's General Manager Javier Albar and Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai's General Manager Bret Pidgeon.
The judges based their decision on each contestant's creativity, likeness and attention to detail and the final winner was awarded the best look-alike title, and the first prize of one night's accommodation in a Deluxe Room at the Renaissance Kowloon Hotel with a buffet breakfast for two.
Bret Pidgeon, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai said Madame Tussauds was excited to welcome one of the world's most loved stars to the Hong Kong attraction: the first time Depp's wax figure has appeared in Asia.
"Johnny Depp is globally renowned for his outstanding movie performances and the passion portrayed in his characters, and we're pleased to invite this talented and charismatic actor to grace our Hong Kong attraction and create the same buzz which inevitably follows his appearances," said Mr Pidgeon.
"Guests can have a real lot of fun with this figure, as they can morph into any or all of Johnny Depp's most famous characters. Just like his movies, we know this figure is going to be a hit."
The arrival of Johnny Depp and his interactive experience is just in time for Halloween, complimenting Madame Tussauds Hong Kong's scary Scream attraction.
Johnny Depp's wax figure will be on display in the Movie Premiere section, alongside the other much-loved movie stars.
