Madame Tussauds - Hong Kong

Move Over Beethoven, Maestro Lang Lang has Arrived at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong!

HONG KONG (August 21, 2008) It was a performance to remember today as Lang Lang played for his most unusual audience yet – HIMSELF! The world's best known Chinese classical pianist celebrated his immortalisation in wax at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, marking the first time in the attraction’s global history that a musician has played at his own unveiling.

Lang Lang's admission into the Madame Tussauds World Famous Home of the Famous comes hot on the heels of the maestro's dazzling and unforgettable performance during the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony; and serves as a reminder that Lang Lang continues to redefine the art of classical music.

Exuding his signature charisma, the Grammy nominee played a magical piece before unveiling his wax figure on stage at Hong Kong Glamour inside Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.

"What a huge honour it is to not only welcome Lang Lang to our star-studded line up but also to witness his incredible musical talent filling the attraction," said Mr. Bret Pidgeon, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai. "Lang Lang is a hero to millions of people around the world and represents the definitive figure of contemporary classical music."

Sporting his counterpart's quiet confidence, Lang Lang's wax figure stands casually with his left hand hooked into his jeans, and right hand over his heart, in a sign of simple thank you to an unseen audience. Sporting a black patterned suit, striped black shirt and special edition Lang Lang Adidas shoes, the figure truly reflects the ultra fashionable musician's laid-back personality that has brought a fresh breath of air to the classical world.

"This is one of the greatest moments in my career and an unprecedented opportunity for me to share my passion with guests at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong. Musicians such as Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Grieg have been immortalised through their music; I am excited to have the rare opportunity to do the same at this world famous attraction."

Guests will further be immersed in the world of classical music through a special edition Lang Lang piano from Tom Lee, which will be situated beside the musician's wax figure. Music aficionados and fans can also play the piano and imagine themselves as world-class pianists.

Lang Lang recently released his all-new album "The Best & Rarities" through Universal Music, as a tribute to and in celebration of the Beijing Games.

Lang Lang's wax figure will be displayed at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong from today alongside other music legends such as Mozart and Pavarotti.
