HONG KONG (February 4, 2010) The world renowned Chinese classical pianist, Yundi Li, will be awakening the music senses at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong in celebration of the pianist’s 10th year anniversary as the winner of the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition in 2000
Yundi Li is the youngest winner of the prestigious International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition and the first pianist, as well as the first Chinese, to be awarded the coveted prize. 2010 is not only a big year for Yundi but also for Chopin as the world celebrates the 200th Anniversary of Chopin, the musician’s most loved composer.
On loan from Madame Tussauds Shanghai for the next three months, Yundi Li or rather his incredible wax likeness will help guests appreciate the beauty of classical music, which will be displayed at Hong Kong Glamour of the attraction from February 5 till May 4, 2010.
“Yundi Li’s grace and charm and exceptional talent have touched the hearts of music lovers everywhere. Yundi is well-loved by people near and far, and is one of the most outstanding Chinese representatives of classical music around the world,” said Bret Pidgeon, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Sporting a classic black suit, white shirt and white bow-tie, the figure reflects the elegant and charismatic style of Yundi’s graceful personality. The musician’s figure sits in front of a piano with his fingers up in the air, striking a pose to invite everyone to join him on his melody tour.
Guests will further be immersed in the world of classical music where a classic piano will be situated beside the musician’s wax figure. Music aficionados and fans can also play the piano and imagine themselves as world-class pianists.
Yundi is in Hong Kong this week for his “Yundi Li & the HKPO” concert at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall, where he will perform Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1, as a tribute to and in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Chopin.
