Pablo Picasso
This Spanish born modernist painter and sculptor was a pioneer of the school of painting known as “cubism” and became one of the most influential figures in 20th century art. He was unique as an inventor of forms and was a master of various media. In his prolific lifetime he created more than 20,000 works. In 1971 he was honoured by an exhibition of his work at the Louvre Museum in Paris to honour his 90th birthday, the first time to date that the work of a living artist had ever been shown there.
