Donald Tsang


Mr Donald Tsang has been the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China since 21 June 2005. He became the Chief Secretary for Administration of HKSAR Government in May 2001 and was the leading Principal Official to support the Chief Executive in administering Hong Kong. Before becoming Chief Secretary, Mr Tsang was Financial Secretary of HKSAR. During his six-year tenure as Financial Secretary, he steered Hong Kong through the Asian financial crisis that swept across the region in 1997 and 1998. Mr Tsang joined the Civil Service in 1967 and has held many leading positions dealing with local administration, finance, trade and policies relating to the return of Hong Kong to China. He received the Grand Bauhinia Medal from the HKSAR in June 2002 and a knighthood (KBE) from the British Sovereign in June 1997 for his distinguished service to Hong Kong.
