Marilyn Monroe

Born Norma Jean Baker, Marilyn Monroe symbolised all that was glamorous about the big screen.

Her rise to stardom began with the films Bus Stop (1955) and The Seven Year Itch (1955).

Her screen image as the archetypal blonde sex symbol earned her lead roles in many films including How to Marry a Millionaire (1953), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), Some Like it Hot (1959) and in her last film, written by her husband Arthur Miller, The Misfits (1961).

She died tragically in 1962 after overdosing on sleeping pills.
