Sittings with the Stars
Sittings are so important simply because we actually meet the celebrity! This is true, it’s not only about taking the measurements and matching hair samples, it’s also about getting to know them and eventually capturing a part of their personality and bringing it to the final sculpt. Whether they are funny or serious, cheeky or shy, if we can incorporate their personality into the sculpture the wax figure is more likely to come alive.
I often get nervous that I might become star struck during Sittings, but I’ve been lucky so far! I know occasionally Sculptors do become star struck, like when we’ve had a Royal Sitting, or if they’ve had the chance to meet their idol. Sittings with Footballers always seem to leave the whole team star struck!
We’ve had a really wide variety of requests from celebrities during Sittings. Once we were asked to make a clay paw print of the celebrity's dog! There are always a lot of food requests too. Orders have varied from steak and chips to chicken and waffles, a selection of crisps, every colour of skittles and every flavour of chewing gum available. We’ve even had an order costing a whopping $300!! Sometimes the celebrities invite the Sittings team out for dinner or for a drink, but unfortunately the team is always in too much of a hurry to get back to the Studios to start work on the wax figure.
