Mayor Johnson’s first year in office is marked with a new wax figure
A new wax figure of London’s charismatic, colourful and famously forthright Mayor, Boris Johnson, was announced today and is to be made to coincide with his first anniversary in office.
Mayor Johnson has given our studios team two sittings at City Hall and work is already underway on his new figure which, will be revealed to the public as he celebrates his first year as Mayor in early May. Over 300 measurements and a catalogue of reference shots have been taken and the figure will take five months to create at a cost of £150,000.
Liz Edwards, PR Manager for Madame Tussauds London said: “Madame Tussauds is proud of its unique and long history in the Capital; it’s something we strive to reflect in the attraction and how better than to feature the City’s elected leader? And in keeping with Mayor Johnson’s distinctive style we have some interesting plans for his portrayal. We want to inject some wit and a real flavour of London into the way he is featured so his figure will greet guests from a red London Routemaster bus – one of the Capital’s most famous icons and particularly close to Mr Johnson’s heart!”
Mayor Johnson said: “It is an honour to be immortalised in wax at this world famous attraction; in fact it’s the highlight of my career so far, right up there with receiving a Knighthood from the Queen one imagines”.
