World Tennis Champion, Serena Williams, Arrives!
Williams was an active and enthusiastic participant in the creation of her wax figure, spending more than an hour with a team of Madame Tussauds studio artists, who flew to Paris to meet Serena, as she trained for the French Open. Williams and Nike generously donated a replica of the outfit she wore during the 2004 U.S. Open for her figure to don. The outfit – one of Williams’ favorites – consists of a cropped black sleeveless top and denim skirt, accessorized by silver hoop earrings, a sparkling silver ring and black socks, sneakers and headband.
Williams’ wax likeness will be posed in a standing position with left hand on left hip and a Wilson tennis racquet (also donated by Williams) in its right hand. Williams’ figure will be part of the attraction's new “Sports Zone” – an interactive area dedicated to the love of sports, which is also home to wax figures of sport icons Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, Derek Jeter, Evander Holyfield, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Joe Namath, David Wright, Eli Manning and Florence Griffith Joyner. There, visitors will be able to take pictures with and even hug Williams’ figure.
On the tennis court, Williams is already a legend. She is the reigning U.S. Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon singles champion and has won 22 Grand Slam titles – more than any other active female player – as well as two Olympic gold medals. Outside of tennis, Williams is known for her successful endeavors in film, television, fashion and philanthropy. Her hotly anticipated book, “On the Line,” will debut September 1. The book is a compelling and poignant memoir, in which Williams takes an empowering look at her extraordinary life and what is still to come.
