Celebrating "Mandela Day", his wax figure to visit EXPO


July 18th Shanghai Today is international “Mandela Day” and EXPO’s South Africa pavilion is hosting a celebration event for their former president Nelson Mandela. For this special event, Madame Tussauds Shanghai is exhibiting the wax figure of him during this special day. Even though it is only his wax figure that is present, the realism of the figure captured many tourists’ attention as it reminded them of the legendary hero.

Mandela’s solemn posture gives tourist the impression of him delivering the world with the message of “the quest to freedom won’t be easy”. From the white hair to his facial wrinkles, Mandela’s wax figure truly showcased Madame Tussauds’ attention to details and skillful craftsmanship as they recreated one of world’s most influential leaders of all times.

Nelson Mandela was not only the president of South Africa, but an inspirational leader for the world as he spends most of his life battling racism. For his contributions, he was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. In addition, after 2009, United Nations declared July 18th to be “Mandela Day”, dedicated for his legacy and his forever pursue of freedom and equality.

Furthermore, Madame Tussauds Shanghai, located at 10/F, New World Building No.2-68 Nanjing Xi Road has established an exhibition area just for world’s famous leaders since last year. Starting with Nelson Mandela and Barrack Obama, the exhibition area also includes Bill Clinton, Vladimir Putin, Winston Churchill and various other leaders, bringing famous political leaders overtime to the public.

During the EXPO period, Madame Tussauds has brought several figures to the EXPO that includes Michael Jackson, Wayne Rooney, David Beckham and the guard of Buckingham Palace. Meanwhile, Madame Tussards Shanghai will continue the policy of a special 50% discount for visitors with an EXPO ticket while also exhibiting more figures of famous stars in the future trying to bring more joy and excitements to the tourists.
