Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist from Atlanta, Georgia who became the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Martin Luthe King Jr. believed that a man should be judged NOT by the color of his skin but by the content of his character.
Laws changed thanks to King's non violent opposition and a national holiday was declared after he was assassinated in 1968.
- 1929: Martin Luther King Jr. was born
- 1953: Became pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama
- 1955: Gained his PhD from Boston University. Lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott after Rosa Parks was forced to give her seat to a white man
- 1956: Racial segregation ended on Montgomery buses
- 1963: Gave his " I Have A Dream" speech at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom
- 1964: The Civil Rights Act passed, ending public segregations of blacks and whites. Won the Nobel Peace Prize
- 1965: Organized the Selma to Montgomery marches which were broken up by police brutality
- 1968: Assasinated in Memphis by James Earl Ray
