Memorable quote: “Deceit reigns”
From April 30 1980 to April 30 2013, Princess Beatrix was Queen of the Netherlands. She had developed her own style during her reign, choosing rather a businesslike style. Although it took the nation some time to get used to this, her serious and professional approach to her work had earned her respect. Also internationally, the Queen of the Netherlands is viewed as someone who prepares thoroughly and knows what she is talking about. Despite the stormy scenes at her coronation, her reign has been fairly smooth.
Beatrix enjoys sculpting and every year; she personally presents the royal subsidies for young artists. During her reign, the long illness of her husband Claus and family troubles, such as the Margaritha affaire, ‘Mablegate’ and the Zorreguieta affair, have caused her concern.
