Having served His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej as President of the Privy Council since 1998, General Prem Tinsulanonda is a respected and influential figure among Thai people

A distinguished Army officer, he entered politics in 1959 as a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee and became a Senator (1968-1971), a Member of Parliament (1972-1973), Deputy Interior Minister (1977-1978) and held the position of Minister of Defense (1979-1986)

In March 1980, he was nominated Prime Minister of Thailand by Parliament and held the position for eight years, at the conclusion of which he was granted the title of Statesman by His Majesty the King. He is actively involved in many charities, including the General Prem Tinsulanonda Foundation
