Mitr Chaibancha

“Faith, obligation, goodwill and kindness”

Mitr Chaibancha starred in over 300 films during a period of only 12 years in show business from 1958 to 1970. In almost 200 of them he starred opposite Petchara Chaowarat

He is mostly remembered for his roles in In Sri Dang (Red Eagle) (1959), Mon Rak Luke Toong (Magical Love in the Countryside) (1970) and In Sri Tong (Golden Eagle) (1970) which was the last film he starred in. Mitr was the only male lead actor who was voted by his peers to receive a Gold Star Award from His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej

In his passion to make In Sri Tong (Golden Eagle) Mitr refused to use a stuntman in the final scene of the movie, however he died tragically after falling from a rope hanging from a helicopter. Reportedly more than 300,000 people attended Mitr’s funeral on 21st January 1971

Born Pichate Poomhem on 14th January 1934 in Phetchaburi province, Thailand

Died on 8th October 1970 in Chonburi province, Thailand
