Wayne Rooney scores a place!

“I love playing football but I think I am like everyone else, I hate losing and love winning”

• Wayne Rooney is a footballer who plays as striker for Manchester United and England

• Wayne was just 10 when he was signed by Everton on schoolboy terms. Because he was under 17 he was paid £80 a week and continued to live on one of the UK's most deprived council estates

• At 17, Wayne became the youngest player to win an England cap when he made his international debut against Australia in 2003. His reputation as an England player took a knock in 2006 when he was sent off during a World Cup game against Portugal

• When he was still only 18 Wayne moved from Everton to Manchester United in 2004 for £25.6 million where he made an impressive debut, scoring a hat-trick against Fenerbahçe in a Champions League game

• Wayne didn't achieve a single GCSE, but has a tattoo on his arm saying 'Just Enough Education to Perform' – the title of an album by his favourite band, The Stereophonics

• Wayne continues to play for the England National team joining them in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil

Born Wayne Mark Rooney on 24th October 1985 in Liverpool, England
