NY Cosmos Kick Off with Pelé and his Wax Double
The New York Cosmos club’s Honorary President Pelé will join the team for its first game of the 2014 NASL season on April 13 at 5 PM at Hofstra University’s Shuart Stadium. Madame Tussauds New York will also be in attendance with Pelé's wax figure. Fans will have the opportunity to pose for photos with the soccer legend's wax figure throughout the game.
The Cosmos host the Atlanta Silverbacks in a rematch of last year’s title game. The Cosmos will hold a special pre-game trophy ceremony with Pelé, the current squad and the Soccer Bowl trophy. In addition to attending the opening match, Pelé will be awarded an honorary degree by Hofstra University for his humanitarian work and contributions to the sport.
A native of Brazil, Pelé began his professional career at 16 with Santos Futebol Clube in the State of São Paulo and won his first World Cup a year later, quickly racking up records that still stand today. He is the only player to win three World Cups and remains the sport’s all-time leading scorer with 1,283 career goals.
Pelé's wax figure is portrayed from 1963, when he was 22 years old. His wax figure will be at The New York Cosmos home opener on April 13.
