- Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados. She grew up in a middle class Barbadian family. Her mother Monica Fenty, an accountant, comes from Guyana and her father, Ronald Fenty, a warehouse worker, from Barbados. Rihanna has two younger brothers and three half-sisters as well as a half-brother. She is known as a R&B and pop singer, actress, but also as a designer and model.
- In 2003, Rihanna began her career by founding a girl band in Barbados, with whom she performed in churches and at school festivals. In the same year she was introduced to the music producer Evan Rogers, who gave her the chance to audition. The producer was so enthusiastic about her that she and her mother decided to move to the USA to record songs for a demo tape. With a demo tape in her hand she applied to several record companies, among others the legendary label ‘Def Jam’, where she was signed directly by musician and producer Jay-Z. Since then, she has recorded eight successful studio albums and has gone on eight world tours. Rihanna has already won the Pop Olympics with her third album, including the hits ‘Umbrella’, ‘Don’t Stop the Music’, and ‘Disturbia’. Even nowadays songs like ‘Rude Boy’, ‘California Child Bed’, ‘We Found Love’ and ‘Diamonds’ make her one of the most popular R&B and pop singer in the world.
- Today, Rihanna is an eight-time Grammy award winner and with over 191 million sold recordings, she is one of the most successful musicians in the R&B and pop area. She is also regarded as the most commercially successful artist in digital downloads and as the singer with the most streams on the Spotify music streaming service. In addition, she went down in music history as the youngest solo artist who succeeded in placing 14 number one hits in the US Billboard Hot 100. Her successes are documented in the long list of her awards and honors, too. This includes being part of the most influential peoples’ list by TIME magazine. Additionally, the Billboard award as artist of the year 2012, the honor of the American Music Award as a music icon and the appraisal as a style icon by the Council of Fashion Designers of America are among Rihanna's most important awards.
