Soekarno

Soekarno

Dr H.C. Ir. Soekarno was the first President of the Republic of Indonesia (1945-1966).

  • Proclaimed Indonesia's independence from Japanese power on 17th August 1945
  • Formulated ‘Pancasila’ (‘Five Principles’) as the constitutional basis of the Republic of Indonesia. This ideology contains instructions on divinity, humanity, nationalism, democracy and prosperity
  • Still fondly remembered for his persistence in promoting world peace, and fair and equal international cooperation – notably as an inspiration for the struggle against apartheid in South Africa

“We seek to build a world where everyone can live in peace. We seek to build a world where there is justice and prosperity for all people. We seek to build a world in which humanity can achieve its full glory”

Soekarno
