  • Dirk Werner Nowitzki was born on June 19, in 1978 and is known for beeing one of the most famous basketball players of all time in Germany. He started playing basketball in 1991. From 1997 to 1998 he played with the German Armed Forces and became the most successful basket shooter and rebounder of the then second division DHJ Würzburg. With his help his team was able to step into the national basketball league.
  • Since 1998, Dirk Nowitzki, who is actually 213 cm tall, played in the North American professional league NBA plays with the Dallas Mavericks. In the 2006/2007 NBA season, Nowitzki became the first European to win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award (MVP). In 2011, he was the first German to win the NBA Finals with the Dallas Mavericks. With about 14 million US dollar annual salary, he is one of the best paid athletes in Germany, alongside Michael Schumacher.
  • Dirk Nowitzki is considered to be one of the best basketball players in the world and is the first European in the history of the NBA, who has been elected to the All-NBA-First-Team. On February 17, in 2007 Nowitzki became the first player of the Dallas Mavericks and first European to be called into the starting five of the all-star games. With over 29.000 points, Dirk Nowitzki is still one of the top six basketball players in the NBA history and is the only NBA player, who achieved more than 29.000 points, 1.500 successful three-point field goals, 10.000 rebounds, 3.000 assists, 1.000 blocks and 1.000 steals. His records have already been rewarded with several honors and prizes. This includes the fact that Dirk Nowitzki was the first sportsman in a team to be honored with the German award for being sportsman of the year. Additionally he received the so called “Silberne Lorbeerblatt” (in English: silver laurel leaf) for his sportive achievement and his exemplary attitude, two FIBA Europe Player Of The Year Awards and the honor to wave the German flag at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.
