Swing together with the “King of Rock’n’Roll" - Elvis Presley!
Good to know:
- Elvis Aaron Presley was known as the 'King of Rock and Roll', one of the 20th century's most popular singers and an enduring cultural icon. He is the biggest selling solo artist in the history of pop music, thanks to his genre-spanning, hip-shaking music. The uniqueness of the combination of white country music with black rhythm and blues was just the beginning.
- Elvis became one of the greatest singers of rock and pop culture of the 20th century. He is believed to have sold over a billion records worldwide but only ever played five concerts outside the United States, on a three-day tour to Canada in 1957. After Elvis died suddenly in 1977 there was a huge growth in the number of Elvis impersonators, leading to festivals, competitions, even a radio station that played exclusively Elvis impersonator material. Copying the King is a popular hobby and a professional career for some!
- The wax figure of Elvis Presley is part of the exhibition since the opening of Madame Tussauds Vienna in 2011. In 2013 Elvis’ wax figure got a new outfit. After 2 years in his Sixties outfit he was presented in a military outfit due to the fact that Presley himself had to start his military service and fulfilled two years a life as a soldier. Therefore the new outfit reflects this significant time in the singer's life that influenced him greatly for his future career.
