What's it about?

  • In this particular letter, written from Edinburgh, Marie tells François of the difficult sea journey she and Joseph endured on route from London, the rough waters left many of the passengers ill. None-the-less she notes that Joseph, who she refers to as “Nini”, was very popular with the crew and the Captain.
  • Marie continues to tell Francois of the ongoing problems she is having with Mr. Phillipstal, the proprietor of the phantasmagoria show she is travelling with.
  • All 13 letters are written in French, and were allegedly brought to England with a bundle of other papers upon François’ death.
