- The well-known Austrian physician, psychoanalyst and detractor of religion is considered as the founder of psychoanalysis, which he achieved fame worldwide. Freud is best known for exploring the subconscious mind in the hope of understanding the conscious mind. He believed that dream therapy and talk therapy (relating your thoughts to an analyst) could help get to the root of psychological illness. Freud is considered as one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century. His theories and methods are, however, controversial until today.
- Freud had some strange phobias – he was terrified of the number 62 and would never book a hotel room of that number! For decades, Freud smoked up to 20 cigarettes a day. Due to this obsession he fell ill in 1922 and got cancer. Despite more than a total of 33 operations his disease could not be stopped. He had a lot of pain and could hardly speak. A year after his emigration to England Freud asked his family doctor for euthanasia. On September 23rd, Freud died after his doctor injected him a lethal dose of morphine.
